What is a bubble? A bubble isn’t just about the prices of assets that have gone up too far, or perhaps too quickly. A bubble is more about overinflated expectations that eventually, when reality sets in, pricks the bubble leaving many to wonder how it all happened as prices fall (sometimes precipitously).
I just took a trip down to Cali, Colombia in July for a week, which was my first time in South America! I’ve wanted to travel there for many years and the opportunity suddenly presented itself. It would have been helpful to spend more than a week studying Spanish before I left, because English isn’t very useful down there! It can be tough to make simple things happen like buying food, getting around and going to the grocery store without a way to communicate. And how about those times when you say something out of the phrasebook (feel excited!) and then the response isn’t what the book says should be the response. Too funny!
In a world where the fear of Artificial Intelligence (AI) turning against humanity looms large, it is crucial to examine this notion with reason and clarity. The idea that AI will one day decide to eradicate us is deeply engrained in our cultural consciousness, fuelled by ancient myths and popular sci-fi films. However, this perspective overlooks the fact that AI is not a living being with its own desires or evolutionary instincts. It is merely code and machines, created and controlled by humans.
It’s 99 days until my half marathon, yup, I signed up! A friend and I will be running in Thornbury (up near Collingwood) in early October and now it feels real. Those of you that know me well, know that I’m up for a challenge, and anyone that questions whether I plan to follow through with sufficient conditioning to get this run finished for the first time in about 24 years is mistaken. I also try to get out for walks during the work day, but those hot humid days are challenging for those of us in “work clothes”, because even a leisurely walk pretty nearly requires a shower! But a walk is good for me (probably most of you too!), so I sure can’t complain too loudly.
